Double Slit Experiment – When You Look, You Change Reality


Is the world the same when no one is watching? This question no longer belongs only to philosophy — it lies at the core of quantum physics. The famous Double Slit Experiment demonstrates that observation itself changes how the universe behaves. In simple terms: when you look, you alter reality.

How the Experiment Works

Imagine firing tiny particles — like photons or electrons — toward a barrier with two narrow slits. Behind the barrier stands a screen that records where each particle lands. When no measurement is made to determine which slit the particle travels through, the screen displays an interference pattern of bright and dark lines. It means each particle behaves like a wave and appears to pass through both slits simultaneously.

Once scientists install a detector to identify the particle’s path, everything changes. The interference pattern disappears, and the particle suddenly acts like solid matter, choosing only one route. The simple act of watching changes the outcome.

The Quantum Mystery

Classical logic cannot explain this phenomenon. In quantum mechanics, particles exist in a state of superposition — occupying multiple possibilities at once. The moment a measurement occurs, that uncertainty collapses. Observation forces reality to select a single version of events.

This raises profound questions. Are we passive observers, or active participants in creating reality? Does consciousness itself influence the physical world?
