Operação Prato – The Secret Brazilian UFO Investigation and Human Experiments

Mysterious Events in the Amazon Jungle

In 1977, residents of Colares, a small island town in northern Brazil, began reporting strange glowing objects hovering low above their homes.
The lights emitted intense beams that burned human skin, caused temporary paralysis, and even drained blood.
Locals called them “Chupa-Chupa”, or “the suckers,” believing these lights were draining people’s life energy.

Hospitals soon filled with patients showing burns, blood loss, and laser-like wounds. Fear spread so widely that the Brazilian Air Force intervened.

The Military Investigation

In response, the Brazilian Air Force launched a classified mission known as “Operação Prato” (Operation Plate).
It was led by Captain Uyrangê Hollanda, who commanded an intelligence team tasked with:

  • setting up cameras, radar systems, and observation posts;
  • taking hundreds of photographs of unidentified lights;
  • collecting eyewitness accounts of abductions and human experiments.

Some soldiers reported that the lights emitted beam-like instruments that seemed to scan or examine people.

Experiments on Humans

Doctors who treated victims described precise circular wounds and blood extraction patterns unlike any natural injury.
The affected skin showed microscopic burn marks, similar to laser incisions.

Witnesses claimed that the lights were conducting biological experiments — as if studying human anatomy and energy fields.
Some people reported strange dreams, visions of beings made of light, or even telepathic communication with non-human entities.

Many ufologists believe that these were systematic extraterrestrial studies, focused on understanding the human organism — its energy, consciousness, and DNA.

Extraterrestrial Research: Who Are We?

According to researchers analyzing the “Operação Prato” documents, the events might have been part of a larger extraterrestrial project aimed at studying the origin and evolution of humankind.
Some theories suggest that:

  • extraterrestrial beings were measuring brainwave and electromagnetic frequencies,
  • they were collecting biological samples,
  • and they were trying to understand human consciousness and emotional energy.

A few Brazilian researchers even proposed that humans are living biological sensors, designed to interact with universal energy — and the “Amazon Incident” was part of that long-term observation.

Evidence and Secrecy

By early 1978, Captain Hollanda’s team had gathered hundreds of photos, radar readings, and medical reports.
Then, suddenly, the mission was shut down, and all documents were classified.

The official explanation claimed: “No threat to national security.”
However, many witnesses were ordered to remain silent, and some mysteriously disappeared afterward.

Captain Hollanda’s Confession and Death

In 1997, nearly 20 years later, Captain Hollanda broke his silence in an interview with Brazilian ufologist A. J. Gevaerd.
He admitted that:

  • the objects were “real and intelligent”;
  • they responded to military presence;
  • and the government knew far more than it ever revealed.

Weeks later, he was found dead at home, officially ruled as suicide — but many believe he was silenced for exposing too much.

Declassified Files

Between 1997 and 2004, the Brazilian government gradually declassified more than 2,000 pages of materials, including:

  • photos of glowing discs and lights;
  • medical reports describing radiation burns;
  • radar data confirming unknown aerial objects;
  • witness testimonies of abductions and energy drainage.

These files are now stored in the Brazilian National Archives, publicly accessible to researchers.

Main Theories

  1. Extraterrestrial Experimentation – aliens studying human biology and consciousness.
  2. Secret Military Testing – human trials of experimental energy weapons or drones.
  3. Electromagnetic Phenomena – natural plasma fields causing burns and fear.
  4. Mass Psychological Effect – panic and hysteria amplified by social fear.

Operação Prato in Popular Culture

The case has been compared to the Roswell Incident in the United States.
It has inspired numerous documentaries on History Channel, Discovery, and Netflix, earning its place as the most documented UFO investigation in South America.
Brazil remains one of the few nations that has officially admitted to a UFO inquiry.

Humanity as a Living Experiment?

The “Operação Prato” files raise a profound question:
Was humanity itself part of an ongoing extraterrestrial research project?
Were the people of Colares unwilling participants in a study about life energy and creation?

Nearly 50 years later, the mystery remains unsolved — a reminder that our species might still be under observation, and that the Amazon night sky once hid something far beyond human understanding.
